We’ve been told for ages about the “three-step skincare routine,” which mandates us to have cleansing-toning-moisturizing done to ensure a sense of “skin insurance.” The advice goes, “If you were to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin religiously, you’d have blemish-free- youthful-looking skin!”
However, as days went by, everyone realized that just a three-step daily ritual wasn’t enough for your skin. You needed more.
Enter: Face masks/ face peels/ microdermabrasion/ steaming/ acupuncture and everything else in between to take care of your precious face.
If you have oily skin, beware of what you feed it. Oily skin is also sensitive to a lot of sulfates most of the time. These sulfates are the same ones that add a lot of foam to your cleansers.
The problem arises when you try to strip your face of all its moisture through these cleansers, not realizing that it makes your skin produce more oil. More oil to compensate for the oil loss, and the cycle of horror continues.
If you have oily and acne-prone skin, the solution to control the oil is quite counter-intuitive. You need to feed it oil—the kind that is light and non-comedogenic (one that doesn’t cause acne).
That is why we wanted to list a few ideas for a naturally made serum for oily skin that can heal your dark spots and acne.
1. Apricot Kernel Oil Serum
Apricot Kernel Oil is a very light and highly nutritious moisturizing oil for your skin. It is packed with Vitamin E and linoleic acid, which are highly moisturizing and nourishing for your skin. It can help you have youthful, glowing porcelain skin.
Here is a recipe for a serum to heal acne scars:
2 Tbsp. Apricot Kernel Oil
3 Tbsp carrier oil (Carrot oil/ Argan oil/ Macadamia oil/ avocado oil/ Olive oil)
Mix these two oils and store them in a brown glass bottle. Keep away from sunlight. Apply it before bed, right after cleansing your face, and top it up with your favorite moisturizer.
2. Nourishing Hemp Facial Oil serum
Cold-pressing hemp seeds extract hemp oil. It has many benefits for oily and acne-prone skin, such as moderating oil production, moisturizing and soothing inflammation, and maintaining a youthful glow on your skin. Here is a serum you can make and use daily at night:
50 ml Hemp seed oil
30 ml Grapeseed oil
20 ml rosehip oil
Mix and store in a tinted glass bottle, away from sunlight. This serum will help you have a “glass skin” effect providing you with translucent, clear skin.
3. Rosehip Seed Oil serum
Rosehip seed oil is one that is packed with tons of antioxidants. You should add this oil to your routine for young-looking, well-pampered skin. It’s packed with Vitamin A, which will help heal scars and reduce inflammation. Here is a serum you can make using the oil:
1 Tbsp Avocado oil
1 Tbsp Rosewater
25-30 drops Rosehip seed oil
Spray bottle/ Roll-on applicator
Use this natural serum post-cleansing and before moisturizing for healing acne and promoting new skin cell formation. Keep in the fridge for a cool-mist to refresh your face.
Many other oils are beneficial for your skin. Many brands provide a combination of these oils and more so that you dont need to worry about the right mixing quantities and benefit from multiple healing natural oils. Just Ensure whether you make a natural serum for oily skin or buy a readymade one, check your ingredients, and eliminate the chemicals.
